Hila Fahima's debut solo recital for Orfeo pairs her with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra under the Italian conductor Michele Gamba in a 74-minute programme devoted to Donizetti and Verdi — the bel canto repertoire that carried her from the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, which she joined at 22, to the Wiener Staatsoper in 2013.

The Donizetti half moves between the celebrated and the rediscovered: Linda's "O luce di quest'anima", Marie's "Salut à la France" from La fille du régiment, Adina's "Prendi, per me sei libero" and Norina's "Quel guardo il cavaliere", alongside the great Mad Scene from Lucia di Lammermoor and two rarities — "Confusa è l'alma mia" from Emilia di Liverpool and "Perché non ho del vento" from Rosmonda d'Inghilterra.

Verdi closes the disc with Gilda's "Gualtier Maldè … Caro nome" from Rigoletto — a role she went on to sing at the Bregenz Festival — and Amalia's "Tu del mio Carlo" from I masnadieri, a pairing that shows the coloratura brilliance and lyric warmth at the centre of her artistry.
